Morning
Your day usually begins early, around 7:00 AM, to make the most of the clear morning skies. The first thing that greets you is the crisp mountain air and stunning views of the surrounding peaks, which glow as the sun rises. After freshening up, you’ll head to the dining area of the teahouse for breakfast. Breakfast options often include hearty meals like porridge, pancakes, eggs, or traditional Tibetan bread, giving you the energy needed for the morning trek. By 7:00–7:30 AM, you’ll strap on your gear and begin the day’s trek, walking through picturesque trails with plenty of opportunities to take in the scenery.
Midday
After trekking for 3–4 hours, you’ll stop at a teahouse or lodge for a well-deserved lunch break. The midday meal is usually simple yet filling, with options like dal bhat (a traditional Nepali dish of lentils, rice, and vegetables), noodles, fried rice, or soups. These meals are designed to provide the calories needed for the rigorous trek. During this time, you’ll also have the chance to rest and recharge for 30–60 minutes. While you relax, you might admire the views around you or chat with fellow trekkers before heading back to the trail for the afternoon segment.
Afternoon
The afternoon trek involves another 3–4 hours of walking, typically on varied terrain. You’ll pass through stone staircases, cross suspension bridges swaying over rushing rivers, and traverse lush forests that eventually give way to alpine meadows as you gain altitude. Along the way, you’ll encounter breathtaking vistas of towering peaks like Machhapuchhre (Fishtail) and Annapurna. By mid-afternoon, around 3:00–4:00 PM, you’ll arrive at your destination teahouse. This is where you’ll settle in for the evening, claiming a cozy room and enjoying some downtime before dinner.
Evening
Evenings are a time to relax and soak in the tranquility of the mountains. After settling into your teahouse, you might explore the surrounding village, take photos, or simply enjoy the breathtaking Himalayan views. Dinner is typically served between 6:00–7:00 PM in the teahouse dining area. Dal bhat is a popular choice for its balance of carbohydrates and nutrients, and its unlimited refills make it ideal for trekkers. This is also the time to review the day’s trek and discuss plans for the following day with your guide or fellow trekkers.
Night
After dinner, the atmosphere quiets down as trekkers wind down from the day’s adventure. You might spend time journaling about your experiences, reading, or socializing with other trekkers in the warm and cozy dining hall. By 8:00–9:00 PM, most trekkers retire to their rooms to rest, preparing for the next day. The night in the teahouse is often calm, with the occasional sound of the wind or distant river, offering a peaceful end to your day.
This daily rhythm, combining physical effort and moments of tranquility, makes the short Annapurna Base Camp trek a memorable and enriching experience.

Altitude sickness, also known as acute mountain sickness (AMS) is a common concern during the 7-day Annapurna Base Camp (ABC) trek because the trail ascends to an elevation of 4,130 meters (13,550 feet).
